Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police say they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior official said the vandalism made him stunned and required to be solved promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
